Hathras, Uttar Pradesh - The Heritage Artifacts

Hathras, Uttar Pradesh

Hathras which is famously called ‘Braj ki dehri’ is a small city of Uttar Pradesh, situated at the north-west of the state. In 1997, the then chief minister of the state announced the creation of a new district naming Mahamaya, comprising of some combined Tehsils of Aligarh, Mathura and Agra districts. Soon after the declaration of this new formation, the name Mahamaya was changed to Hathras.

Hathras is famous for its antique finish metal handicraft products. Local artisans produce lot of products from brass, copper and aluminium. These are then coated with nickel and gold plating and then oxidised to give that blackish, old, antique look. Some of the popular items being God and animal figurines, vase, bowls, boxes, other home décor artifacts.
