Shantiniketan, West Bengal - The Heritage Artifacts

Shantiniketan, West Bengal

Culturally rich, Shantiniketan in West Bengal, is where Nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore resided and set up the esteemed Viswa Bharati University. His legacy is respectfully preserved here.
Established in 1927, Amar Kutir is a historic cottage in Shantiniketan that was founded by Sushen Mukherjee, a revolutionary who is associated with the freedom movement of India. After Independence, Amar Kutir was converted to a cooperative, promoting sustainable rural development through the manufacturing and selling of locally made handicrafts.

Shantiniketan being a place well known for literature, poetry & music, local artisans are also very creative, and they produce hand crafted items using multiple raw materials, which include wood, clay, bamboo, cane and even scarp metals. This place is also famous for its beautifully handcrafted leather handbags available in unique colours and patterns with traditional motifs.
