Zinc metal - The Heritage Artifacts

Zinc metal

Zinc is the principal ore mineral in the world, the 23rd most abundant element in the earth’s crust, and fourth among all metals in world production, after iron, aluminium, and copper. Zinc is a slightly brittle metal at room temperature and has a silvery-greyish appearance when oxidation is removed.

India is reported to be first country to recognize zinc as a metal. Historical evidence indicates that the zinc production in Zawar, Rajasthan dates back to 9th century. Today Hindustan Zinc Limited, HZL mines are located at Rampura Agucha, Sindesar Khurd, Rajpura Dariba, Zawar and Kayad in the state of Rajasthan. The current ore production capacity today stands at 12 million tonne per annum.
Zinc metal handicraft is mainly produced in Udaipur and Jodhpur of Rajasthan and they are quite popular for durable use, rust-resistant, and fade-resistant.
